Behind hyper efficient shooting from the floor, the Tennessee State men’s basketball team was able to lay a 85-53 beating on the Eagles of Tennessee Tech Thursday night.
TSU got off to a quick start , scoring the first ten points of the contest, before Tech finally got on the board via a Jayvis Harvey jumpsuit that made the score 10-2. The Tigers showed the way for the entirety of the half, with the Eagles drawing as close as two points on a pair pf free throws from Harvey that brought the court to 28-26 at the 1:31 mark of the half. Tennessee State took a 36-30 lead into the half , shooting 63.4% ( 14-22) and 60% (6-10) from downtown in the first half.
Christian Brown started the second half with five points that put the Tigers up 41-30 with 18:12 left in the contest. That was the closest the game would ever be as Tennessee State built as much as a 32 point advantage as the Tigers cruised to a comfortable 85-53 win.
Christian Brown and reigning OVC Freshman of the Week Jaylen Jones paced the Tigers with 14 points. E.J. Bellinger added 13 points, Jason Jitoboh put 11 points; Denim Dawson and Kinyon Hodges both chipped in 10 points.
In a losing effort, Jayvis Harvey led three Tennessee Tech players in double figures with 17 points; Josiah Davis and Rodney Johnson Jr contributed 13 points each.
Up next for Tennessee State (10-9, 3-3) is a meeting this Saturday against Western Illinois.
